Ingredients


Makes: 12 servings
  • 1 C (250 ml) chopped dates
  • 1 tsp (5 ml) baking soda
  • 1 1/2 C (375 ml) boiling water
  • 3/4 C (180 ml) shortening
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 C (250 ml) sugar
  • 2 C (500 ml) flour
  • 1/2 tsp (2,5 ml) Sea Salt (Grinder)
  • 1/2 tsp (2,5 ml) baking soda
  • 1 tsp (5 ml) vanilla extract
  • 1 Tbsp (15 ml) pure cocoa
  • 1/2 C (125 ml) Epicure's Milk Belgian Chocolate
  • Topping:
  • 1/2 C (125 ml) sugar
  • 1/2 C (125 ml) chopped dates
  • 1/2 C (125 ml) Epicure's Milk Belgian Chocolate

Preparation


 
  • Preheat oven to 325° F (170° C).
  • Cover dates with baking soda and water. Let stand until cool.
  • Cream together shortening, eggs and sugar. Combine both mixtures and beat well.
  • Add flour, baking soda, Vanilla Extract, Pure Cocoa and chocolate chips. Pour into a parchment-lined 9” x 13” (23 x 33 cm) pan.
  • Mix topping ingredients and spread over cake batter. Bake at 325° F (170° C) for 40 minutes.
